Piston which way round?

Guys id rather assume the obvious but i thought i'd double check with some one more experienced. The Haynes manual (book of lies) says which way the piston goes ie. marking the "exhaust" side of the piston.
my pattern piston i believe shows the "inlet" side can anyone confirm this please. its a high flow piston from Miles kingsport Co.
