With the petrol tap turned on,undo the drain screw at the bottom of the float bowl and see if petrol flows out ok.If you need to get the carburettor off but the thread has gone, take the carb off complete with the manifold and sort it out on the bench. Also, have you checked for a spark at the sparking plug to confirm the ignition side is working ok?
