Thanks for your comments Mark.

It's impossible for one person to run a reasonably busy forum, but we have a lot of help. I think there's now 11 that can moderate / admin it. Not everyone's active, but each chips in a bit and does what they can.

Ideally administration of the site is by a collective, not an autocracy. Mods aren't selected because they're best mates with the admins. We're an eclectic bunch and certainly don't all see eye to eye. And I would hope everyone can voice an opinion without fear or favour in an adult way.

The basic brief is that the 'C Team' are there to pour oil on troubled waters, not inflame the situation. That's the key.

The moderators can no longer delete any post on the site. They can only move it to a quarantine area. Admin and other mods then get to see it so everyone knows what's going on and is appraised of a situation.

It also means if a mod goes 'rogue' they can't bully or persecute someone by simply vanishing their posts. Admin can see the moderator logs, and see they've vanished so and so's posts, but can't see what has been deleted...

Everyone, is answerable, to someone. Myself included.

So what isn't tolerated is rudeness, abuse, bullying, or taking personal spats onto open forum. Taking a spat onto FB or to another forum before there's been any private conversations gone on isn't acceptable either. Most things, can be sorted by talking it through.

I think there is much more to it than people realise, although by and large the flock are a good bunch of people.

There will always be those who have a problem with any kind of authority, and it's usually evident when you meet such people their problem extends beyond admins of a forum. That's their problem, not ours.

Some people are way oversensitive, you take them to task in the nicest possible way, as gently as you can, and they turn into a screaming death threat issuing monster. Or, they hang around like a bad smell looking to grind their axe at every opportunity.

That's why sometimes, it's simply better to cut out the dead wood, and move on.

New people come along every day. They come along enthusiastic and bright like a breath of fresh air. People come and go, but the supply of fresh blood is endless. So for my part, I try to look forwards, not backwards.
I'm not going to dwell on Rhayader, or Barmouth, or those we've fallen out of favour with, because there are new venues, new meets, and new faces just as interesting as those that have passed through.

That said, each of our members is precious. Less than half of those signing up go on to post, so they are particularly valuable as they add content.
And there are a lot of readers too. Some will come almost every day for years, and never post.

Booting people is a last resort. "Any fool can sack me, but it takes a good man to get the best out of me" comes to mind. But sometimes, the deed has to be done, and that's where I come in.

Because I can take the heat. The threats, the disdain, whatever. And from those lows, I can get right back in, and see folk helping each other out in the most charitable and amazing ways, and so it goes. Some people, appreciate it. And those who don't, don't matter.

Upwards and onwards! :) :) :) :)
