Honda C50 rear suspension

I am in the process of restoring a 1974 Honda C50, and am curious about the construction of the rear suspension struts/shock absorbers.
These units on my bike have a small cross head screw at the top fixing. My Haynes manual does not show or mention this - in fact the design of the shock absorber shown there is different from mine.
Does anyone know what this screw is for? It appears to cover a small hole leading into the mechanism; am I supposed to fill it with hydraulic oil?
I look forward to and would appreciate any reply.
