I feel like I’m riding a piece of history, a bike built by Honda to transport ordinary people and their families all over the world, a bike cheap enough to be owned by all, a bike that would run on the lowest octane fuels found anywhere in the world, a bike that would go on forever, a bike that could be repaired using a minimum of tools. A bike that could be used for everyman’s trade even for transporting livestock during the day and a farmers entire family in the evening. Honda succeeded in every way, so I’m riding a machine which literally changed the world.
The Honda Cub is fun to ride because it’s underpowered, has qwerky suspension and cluch and poor brakes, you just can’t beat that feeling when you reach 53mph, you feel like you’ve broken the land speed record! You have to do about 150 on a superbike to get that same feeling.
The Honda C90 shared parts with all it’s ancestors and so you can keep it running using parts from a whole bunch of C50’s C70’s, C90’s or even C100’s which gives your bike it’s own personality (see Boo’s)
Because Honda continually modified and refined the Cubs through it’s life, you can play around with combinations of parts to make your bike go a little faster, and on a budget begin to learn about the tuning of four strokes.
As for the practicality of a C90 on long journeys; in every 10 riders you will find at least one who has ridden round Britians coast line, ridden John O Groats to lands end and back, or ridden to: France, Spain or even India.
But here is the big one. You meet the nicest people on a C90. When you own a C90 you become part of a giant family of friends which spans continents. You will find all sorts of events to attend from races to BBQ's to huge record breaking gatherings in Ireland. You will find forums and people to help you when you are in a fix, and wherever you ride people will come up and talk to you.
The Honda Cub is truly greater than the sum of it’s parts. To me that makes it a bargain
