The whole point of spam is they send out 100 to 200 thousand emails at random, sometimes randomly generated, sometimes they will use lists.
The content is irrelevant, and often the spam software will alter the text and content to avoid the mail handlers from identifying it as spam.
The important bit, is the links it contains. A message may contain several. These links are to their clients' web pages, or would be pages.
So if 200,000 mails are sent, and 5,000 people click a link in the email, maybe to try to identify who or why they are being spammed,or just curiosity, then search engines will see that that particular site, has had 5000 hits from all around the World, from a huge multitude of IP addresses, in a very short period of time, and mark it of big interest, and move it up the rankings in it's searches.
Job done.
That's all there really is to it. Don't click the links.
