Where were we, yes a quiet night in Guines with some beers by the tents and then a couple at the campsite bar...Up and pack next morning with an uneventful ride to Poperinge in Belgium, first stop tobacco shop for those who do...then park up in central (I think) Poperinge in a nice square.A spar was spotted and rations purchased...I bit into my banana and nearly lost a tooth!!good god, firm isn't the word...Hi tec Pete and Nige were checking the map, knowing I was coming home on the Monday all by myself I had purchased a rather nice top of the range Michelin road map on the boat,I offered it over as their map was a bit shit(sorry guys)Anyroad they all thought I'd pinched it and couldn't believe I had paid for it!! So on and into Leper(also called Ypres on the map?)Campsite found and find an area to take over...Had a wander into town a nice 10 min walk, went to the menin gate memorial at 7pm where the last post was played/quite moving. Me,bcp and bogger spotted 6 Honda novios parked up,in various states...When the riders of said machines turned I flashed my Honda 90 tee shirt at them and we all had a good chat, most of the bikes (as with our 90's)were all modified/bored out etc! Bogger, bcp and myself went for a wander looking for a bar, we found one down a side street but well, it was a cocktail bar with a no crocs policy As I was the only one in proper footwear we gave it a miss... We found Nige/Jason and hi tec back in town and found a bar...it advertised strongbow hooray!!So orderd one for 3.80 euro to be give a bottle of the half pint size mmmm so it was beer after that...Sunday morning had me feeling rough so had a lie in and told the other's i'd see them later in the town. They all went off to the Flanders field museum whilst I took a shower(very nice)had brecky then ambled into town. Got a couple of Belgium stickers for the bike from the local tourist shop selling tat (to me).Could'nt find the others so back to the campsite for lunch they were close behind me. The afternoon plan was a trip to the Passchendaele museum which was good and Tyne cot cemetery where hi tec pete had connections.Oh nearly forgot about the rather loud yanks who were at the museum and more yanks wearing bloody leather chaps... The weather was bordering on hot,no it was hot and sunny! That night it was beers at the campsite a just a little horse play...Well up and away by 9 the next morning(leaving the others to continue with their holiday) with an uneventful run up the dead straight and rough(concrete slab road) N8 towards Veurne, then onto to motorway A18 towards Dunkirk and on to Calis. The bike ran sweet as a nut and held 55mph with ease...A quick pit stop for coffee near Calis had me watching my back as there were a lot of people milling around looking for a ride to the UK if you know what I mean! Last leg of motorway spotted a couple of bike rozzers parked up on the hard shoulder looking cool on their Yamy fjr's/open face lids etc...as I cruised by they gave a smile and nod...nice...Well again got onto an early boat with an uneventful crossing then an easy 5 or so hours plus a late lunch stop got me home for 5pm ish. The bike didn't miss a beat...
