Vic, I suggest that during your holidays to quietly pocket all the loose Euro's and add at least 20% to the cost of everything explaining to the missus that this is local purchase tax - again squirrel this away safely. On the return flight casually mention that you are off to Rhayader and then get a nice 'quiet' plane ride home to catch up on a few Zzz's.

Now given the lack of Exchange facilities in Rhayader I'll be offering exchange at what I consider to be very reasonable rates; about the same as 'legitimising' loose dollars from South American pharmaceutical interests, say 45% of face value?

After all you wouldn't want any records making back through the post to home now would you or indeed showing up on a Bank statement.
