Hi you two, hope you're doing ok.
Your post has just given me an idea, a CD for homesick expats. The CD would have a selection of people speaking in various tones and accents from around the UK. The expats could play it when they're feeling lonesome and a bit adrift from old blighty. It would be similar in style to those birdsong CDs with lots of examples of birds tweeting, with a calm voice saying - "blackbird" followed by sounds of a blackbird tweeting for 30 seconds, "house sparrow" followed by tweeting, "crested grebe" tweeting......etc etc. The tweeting refered to here is the old fashioned ornithological tweeting done by the feathered descendents of a class of animals long extinct called dinosaurs, not the modern hahahashtag stuff.
There could be an upper class and lower class CD depending on the background of the expat. An upper class one could have phrases like, "get up that chimney with that tooth brush you horrid useless urchin, I want it clean when I get home from my club."
The lower class version could have phrases like, "I'm getting a brand new tooth brush with extra stiff bristles and am going to put it where the sun don't shine my old china, so less of that horrid useless urchin talk".
Nowadays old blighty is being run (or should I say ruined) by a load of upper class toffs and their rich public school mates who have a nasty attitude and an unbelievable sense of self entitlement. Beware about returning. Skype is good for keeping in touch.
