hi guys, after our little chat at matlock bath last week i,ve spoken to the boss, checked the dates and what suits me is weds 28th may to tues june 3rd. i,ve spoke to my brother and high tec pete who are local to me and this is good for them aswell. pete wants to visit a memorial at ypres in belgium as his relation,s name is one one of the stones there. so our trip breaks down to weds, ride from west wales via m4 to dover( i,ve mentioned the roads we,ll use just incase anyone wants to join us) and then on to ypres which is only 50 miles from calais. thurs, visit sites round ypres like the restored ww1 trenches etc. fri, head south via somme battle fields/museums. i,m looking forward to seeing the lochnagar crater which is the biggest of the craters caused by the underground bombing tactics. camp near soissons, which used to be the capital of france. sat, head to normandy via a quick stop at the armistice site/museum near compienge. sun/mon visit d-day beaches, omaha memorial, pegasus bridge etc, etc, tues home . it looks like the boat from caen to ports mouth is best for us, its £20/25 more than the dover boat but it would cost us more in fuel to go back up to dover and then back down m4. there is only one ferry a day so i,m going to book this soon. pete and jase agree and i imagine bogger and bcp will do the same. if a week is too long for some , there are many other options ie, join us thurs in ypres or fri morning before we head south or even meet us in normandy. its a long way off but it,ll soon be here. cant wait. :)
