if you mean the idle wheel between the cam and the crank, then no you don't necessarily have to take it all apart, using a a good torch and a scribe, you may be able to jiggle it back into place and put the bolt back in. (just had to do that after forgetting to tighten the bolt up after an engine top end strip 
)
