Hi Newt,
As you know I only started going to cub camping doo's earlier this year, and have been to three so far. However, may I make one or two comments based on my limited experience?

First of all I have been very surprised at the casual way in which the camping money is collected, and that no records of who has paid for what seem to be kept at all.
This isn't a criticism, just an observation, but it can lead to problems as I will explain later :(

Secondly there is no way to show that you've paid (and more to the point) for other people to see that you've paid.
This may seem like a trivial point, but it is relevant to your post, and certainly caused me much grief last weekend. :blue: :blue: :blue:

Let me explain:-
I arrived at the New Forest do around tea time last Friday and put up my tent. Shortly afterwards Mike came over and asked for £16 for two nights camping. After a bit of pocket searching I managed to give him the correct money as he said everyone so far had given him £20 notes and he was a bit short of change.
Then, after a brief conversation covering such diverse subjects as yacht varnish, hand painting cubs, and the Dulux 200% pension fund 8), he went on his way.
No details asked.... No receipt given. As this now seemed par for the course I gave it no more thought and put the kettle on. :)

And then....and then... On Saturday evening while I was sat in my tent keeping out of the wind (got to look after yourself when your getting on a bit <g> )
I heard a voice outside asking me for my camping money. I shouted back that I'd already paid, but even from inside the tent I could tell he wasn't convinced!
After a while I began to wonder who else had heard this verbal exchange, and if they too doubted that I had paid. Because, of course, I had no way to show that I had. No receipt, no sticker, nothing. :(
Eventually I became quite upset by the thought that at least one person, and maybe more, probably suspected me of dishonesty. So much so that I eventually set my alarm for 4am the next morning, was packed up by 5am, and on my way back home by six. Vowing to never, ever go on a cub camp again.
On reflection this was probably not the best way to behave when suspected of dishonesty, but I'm sensitive old soul, and it's the way I cope with things. :/

So Newt, to return to your thread, if whoever is collecting the money were to be given some coloured paper stickers (for the headlamp) or some lengths of
coloured ribbon or wool (to tie on the handlebars) then every bike owner who had paid could be clearly recognised, and those who hadn't paid readily identified.
The whole payment thing would be self policing, everyone would pay though simple peer pressure, and simple mistakes such as ruined my weekend would not occur.
Sorry if I've gone on a bit, but this is probably my last post on here, and I've certainly now been on my last bimble.
My only regret is that I've never met the legendary Bogger. o.O

Stay safe, stay blessed.
John
