Quiet on the group so I thought an update on my electronicals may be of interest. On the bike alarm front I cant stop the tilt switch from glowing red hot when I plug it in. Ive put this project to one side in the hope that it will sort itself out. On a brighter note I've built a thermostatically controlled heater for my five gallon homebrew wine vat. Ive come to the conclusion that some small investment in a brewheater will be well worthwhile for three reasons.1. If the fermentation fails altogether its thity quids worth of ingredients up the swanny. 2. If the temperature is just right then brews are probably only going to take 10 days from starting to drinking. 3. If the temperature is right then fermentation will run its full course and the wine will be dry and strong. £22 for a brewbelt heater. £6 for a Maplin build it yourself thermostat kit. £3 12v power supply. £1 poundshop extension lead for the cable plug and socket. £2.50 for a mains rated relay. £2.50 for a box to put it in. £2.00 for an LCD thermometer with one metre probe wire. Idea is to drill an extra hole in the plastic lid of the barrel and drop in a plastic tube with a plugged end. Down this tube go the thermostat sensor and the thermometer probe. Going to try to set it up tomorrow. At the moment the thermostat probe is taped to the shade on my bedside lamp and is happily turning the lamp on and off at about the right temperature. Happy Days. Bob.
